BUCKHANNON — George James Lanham, 88, of Buckhannon, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 at his home. He was born Sept. 9, 1925 in Barbour Co., a son of the late Oral and Texie Thompson Lanham. On Nov. 29, 1953 he married Audra A. Wentz who survives. In addition to his wife he is survived by one son, Ross Lanham and wife Joy of Elizabeth; one granddaughter Colleen Lanham of Princeton; one stepgranddaughter, Anessa Dille and husband Tom of Mineral Wells; one stepgrandson, Jason Roberts and wife Jennifer of Bridgeport; six stepgreat-grandchildren; two brothers Arthur Lanham of Elkton, Md. and Delbert Lanham; one sister, Sylvia Regester and husband Garry of Buckhannon and one sister-in-law, Louella Hansford and husband Gary of Buckhannon. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Cecil and Charles Lanham.
Mr. Lanham was a postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service and a member of the Mt. Nebo United Methodist Church, the Stamp Club and the Upshur Co. Historical Society. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Friends will be received today, Friday, Nov. 1, 2013 from 5-9 p.m. at the Poling-St. Clair Funeral Home. A funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
