TENNERTON — Mark P. Ellis, 69, of Buckhannon, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, March 28, 2014. He was born Jan. 28, 1945 in West Milford. Preceding him in death are his parents, John M. and Mary Katherine Arehart Ellis; sister, Mary Pope and brothers, Robert, Mike and George Ellis.
Mark is survived by his wife Cathy Cooper Ellis, whom he married on March 5, 1974; two daughters, Alicia Cooper and husband Jonathan Cable of Buckhannon; Jessica Cooper and husband Dustin Snyder of French Creek; two grandchildren, Brenton and Margaret Cable; sister, Eleanor and husband Edwin Flowers of Morgantown.
He served in the U.S. Army, with the Corps of Engineers and was the mill manager at Coastal Lumber Co. in Buckhannon. He graduated from WVU, was a member of WVU Forestry Alumni and was a registered forester with the State of West Virginia. Mark was a member of the following organizations: Franklin Lodge 7 A.F. & A.M., the Grand Chapter Royal Arch Masons, Scottish Rite, the Osiris Shrine Temple of Wheeling, past president of the Upshur County Shrine Club, Loyal Order of the Moose 598, BPOE 1736 and the VFW Post 3663. Mark was an active member of the community and an avid lover of the outdoors.
Family and Friends will gather at the Tomblyn Whitescarver Funeral Chapel in Buckhannon from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, April 2, 2014. Memorial services will begin at 7 p.m. with Rev. Helen R. Oates officiating. The Upshur County Honor Guard will conduct full military honors at the Funeral Chapel.
