Robert N. “Bob” Skinner Sr.

ELKINS — Mr. Robert N. “Bob” Skinner Sr., 86, a resident of Elkins, passed away Friday afternoon, March 28, 2014 in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown. He was born Jan. 13, 1928 at Elkins, a son of the late Newlon Jennings Skinner and Flossie Etta Wilmoth Skinner. On Feb. 11, 1953 at Norton, he was married to Mary V. Gutshall Skinner who survives. Also surviving are one son, Robert N. ”Bob” Skinner II and wife Jane of Buckhannon and one daughter, Mary Beth Morrell and husband Bill of Blountville, Tenn. One sister, Barbara Morgan and husband Max of Elkins and one brother, Jennings “Jim” Skinner and wife Evelyn of Elkins. Two grandsons, Robert N. Skinner III and Roy Christopher Skinner, both of Buckhannon and several nieces and nephews also survive. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, William “Joe” Skinner and Donald R. Skinner.

Bob was a graduate of Elkins High School with the Class of 1946 and was also a member of the 1945 undefeated football team at Elkins High School. He was a member of the West Virginia Army National Guard for 11 years and had attended several schools of banking. Bob retired in 1993 as vice president of Davis Trust Company after 33 years. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church and also the Methodist Men of the church. He was a member of H.W. Daniels Post 29 American Legion, Elkins Lodge No. 108 AF & AM, the Tygart Valley Shrine Club, and the Elks Club where he was treasurer of the Senior Golf League.

He volunteered for Meals on Wheels for several years. He was a former member of the Elkins Kiwanis Club and was an avid golfer.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. today, Monday, March 31, 2014 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins.On Tuesday, April 1, Mr. Skinner will be moved to the First United Methodist Church in Elkins where a funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Rev. Dallas Forren, Rev. Dr. Basil A. Hensley and Rev. Ellis Conley will officiate and interment will follow in the Elkins Memorial Gardens, Country Club Road in Elkins. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First United Methodist Church, 315 Kerens Avenue, Elkins, WV 26241 or to the West Virginia Wesleyan College Multi-Purpose Stadium Project, Advancement Office, 59 College Avenue, Buckhannon, WV 26201 in memory of Mr. Skinner.
