BUCKHANNON — The 20th Annual Jack Barker Canoe Race took place on Sunday, May 22. The event was held at the Wood Street boat ramp located by the Buckhannon Riverwalk Trail. The West Virginia Strawberry Festival announced the winners on Tuesday, May 24.
The race started at the Riverwalk Trail Park where participants entered the water at the Wood Street boat ramp. Participants then paddled along to the Tennerton Bridge and then returned to the starting point. Sprint racers also began at Riverwalk Trail Park but then traveled to the Poe Bridge before returning to the starting point.
In the Kayak/Men Division, Robert Barbor, of Buckhannon, W. Va., received “Best Time of the Day” with time being 21:05. Travis Shipley, also of Buckhannon, came in next with a time of 36:05.
In the Kayak/Women Division, Summer Lacascio, of Huntington, W. Va., completed the race with a time of 33:02.
Stand-Up (SUP) Division winners were Evan Young, of Hurricane, W. Va., with a time of 25:09, Gideon Casto, of Charleston, W. Va., in second with a time of 28:35 and in third was Jason Rogers, of Charleston, W. Va., with a time of 34:35.
C-1 winner was PJ Donovan, of Hurricane, W. Va., with a time of 22:32. C-2 Standard were Adam Barker and Stephanie Barker, both of Buckhannon, with a time of 25:20.
Sprint race results adult/child were as follows: Adam Barker with Allison Barker and Matthew Barker, of Buckhannon, with a time of 19:56; Evan Young with Marley Young, of Hurricane, W. Va., with a time of 21:33. Stephanie Barker with Mitchell Barker, of Buckhannon, with a time of 22:29.
