WELLSBURG — A total of eight cheer squads traveled to Brooke High School in Wellsburg, West Virginia to compete in the Regional Championships on Saturday. The Lady Bucs found themselves up against some of the stiffest competition in the state, with their region including Brooke, Bridgeport, John Marshall, Morgantown, Preston, University, and Wheeling Park.
It seemed like Head Cheer Coach Christina Nestor had her squad prepared, as the Lady Bucs turned in a clean, mistake-free routine, which gave the judges a lot to think about. The girls’ discipline as a team really stood out in their high energy routine.
In the end, despite the Lady Bucs giving a solid performance, Wheeling Park went home Regional Champions, with Bridgeport coming in as runner-up. Wheeling Park will now advance to the state cheerleading competition—familiar territory as its cheer team has won six of the last seven state titles.
Overall, regionals proved to be a great showing from the Lady Bucs cheer squad. After looking sharp on Saturday, the Lady Bucs will look to carry that positive momentum into the Big 10 Conference Cheer Competition on Tuesday night. The competition starts at 6 p.m. with doors opening at 5 p.m. Good luck, Lady Bucs!
