New school record set by B-U’s Cadence Vincent in 200-yard freestyle

BUCKHANNON – Cadence Vincent bettered her school mark with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle for the Buckhannon-Upshur Lady Buc swimmers in their final dual meet of the year with the Elkins Tigers last Thursday at the WVWC pool.

The new school record set by Vincent is now 1:53.57 in the 200-yard freestyle.

Vincent also took first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 57.27.

Alayna Whitehair won two events taking first in the 50-yard freestyle (27.49) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.74).

Cameron Zuliani, who competed in three relay events in the dual, won her lone individual event, the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:11.51.

All three relay teams won their events.

Zuliani, Beth O’Neill, McKenzie Reynolds and Vincent joined forces to win the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:56.57, the foursome of Zuliani, Whitehair, Reynolds and Fetty won the 200-yard medley with a time of 2:09.63 and the quartet of Vincent, Reynolds, Whitehair and Zuliani won the 400-yard freestyle with a time of 4:00.55.

“We had some swimmers take the opportunity to swim some different events and decided to spread out the relays as well,” noted Buckhannon-Upshur head coach Will Squires. “I was very pleased with how they all adapted to different events and relay orders.”

Squires will now take his Lady Bucs into the Region I Championships this Saturday at Salem University.

“We are now dialing in our efforts toward the regional competition,” concluded Squires. “I am hopeful that most of our swimmers can qualify for the state meet, however, we know nothing is guaranteed and that we must perform well at regionals before looking onward to states. I feel that all the swimmers have put in an immense amount of work in a shortened season, and we are excited to see where that takes them.”
