WESTON — The Buckhannon-Upshur High School boys’ soccer team tied with Lewis County High School in Weston on Thursday, October 7, 2021. The tied game ended with a score of 1-1.
The Buccaneers’ Zach Calef-Boring scored the first goal of the game in the 2nd minute. Assisted by Caden Andrick, Calef-Boring scored with a through-ball from mid-field and finished at the far post.
Lewis County’s Keller Bennett then scored in the 53rd minute to tie the game. Bennett shot a penalty kick.
Coach Mike Donato said the team was plagued with injured players this week. “Injuries were a major factor tonight. Owen still isn’t quite ready to go, Julien was out based on an injury from Tuesday’s game, and Noah went down within the first few minutes of tonight’s game. We had some hurdles to overcome right from the start.” Donato said the guys adjusted well and created some early pressure, scoring within the first few minutes. “We kept that intensity up throughout most of the game and created several quality scoring chances, but just couldn’t finish.”
